Ladies -- be careful

by Michael Kane

Last night I was reading in my room at 3AM.  My bed is up against the window and looks down onto N 7th Street (between Driggs and Roebling).

I saw my neighbor stumbling down the block, and then a man about 10-15 feet behind her.  She turned into her gate, then walked through the door.

As it was closing, the man rushed in to catch the door, but got there a bit too late and was locked out.  He stood there for a second, watched her open the inside door, then turned around.

He saw me watching him, made a call on his cell phone and then walked away.

I feel very unsettled.  Especially since my neighbor has no idea about any of it.

I'm going to tell the neighbors about it, but I also wanted to share it with others.

Please remember: when you're walking home late at night, drunk, and alone, you're especially vulnerable.  And some people look for that.  Please be aware of your surroundings.

"Life is dangerous. Humans who act like wild animals seem to be constantly on the prowl. I'm glad you were watching the other night and that you plan to warn your neighbors. I am always amazed to learn about those who treat people like "things." How do they get to be like that?"
